Babri Masjid Demolition: the masjid Ramjanmbhoomi / Babri title suit is pending at the high court, which will decide the hearing program in January.

Ayodhya:
Hundreds of security officers have littered streets and arches while vehicles and rest homes have been carefully checked in this holy city in view of the 26th anniversary of the demolition of the Babri mosque on Thursday, with authorities closely following the clothes saffron color raising the tone on the question of the sensitive temple Ram.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal are preparing to celebrate the day as 'Shaurya Diwas' (day of courage) and 'Vijay Diwas' (Victory Day) and have asked people to turn on earth lamps like on Diwali, while Muslim clothes have said they will observe "Yaum-e-Gham" (day of pain) and "Yaum-e-Syah" (black day).

Although it has almost become customary for both parties to come out with such announcements, the events in view of the anniversary, in particular the 'Dharam Sabha' (religious conclave) organized by the VHP on November 25 on the question of the Ram temple, have pushed the authority to further strengthen security in the city.

Over 2,500 police officers, as well as Rapid Action Force and CRPF paramilitaries, have been deployed as part of the multi-level security in Ayodhya, including in and around the disputed site and in different parts of the city's Hanumangarhi area , officials said.

"We have an intense security intervention in the twin cities of Faizabad-Ayodhya, while the civil police together with CRPF and RAF have been deployed on sensitive roads and locations," said Anil Singh, police superintendent of Faizabad.

"We are monitoring vehicles, hotels and dharmshala (nursing homes) in Ayodhya, we have taken all necessary security measures and have only allowed the program that is held by both communities every year," he said.

However, despite the presence of visible security, it was as normal as usual in the temple city as pilgrims moved to the Hanumangarhi area and most of the restaurants and shops were open.

"Ayodhya has been peaceful during the recent Dharam Sabha and now it is absolutely peaceful," said the mayor of Ayodhya, Rishikesh Upadhyay.

"Appropriate security personnel have been deployed to ensure that no unpleasant incidents occur.About 20-25 police companies and provisional armed forces (PACs) are permanently stationed at (Ram Janmabhoomi / Babri Mosque) the site and its vicinity, "he said.

The spokesman for the VHP in Ayodhya, Sharad Sharma, said that Hindu organizations will probably "organize a series of religious programs so that a great temple of Lord Ram is built". "Special prayers for the goddess Saraswati (the goddess of learning) must be held in such a way that people, especially politicians, do not hinder the construction of a Ram temple, in addition to the hawan who seek to get rid of all obstructions.

"The taxes will also be paid to the innocent used objects that have faced the bullets and lost their lives," he said.

The president of the Indian Union Muslim League said: "We will look at this day as Black Day. Even the Supreme Court has defined the mosquedemolition of Babri as a matter of national shame". The Babri Masjid action committee invited people to observe the day peacefully and to hold special prayers to resolve the dispute in advance.

Afaq Ahmad Khan, President of BMAC, said: "We are waiting for the last 26 years for justice". He expressed hope that the mosque will be rebuilt on the site. The BMAC said it would send memoranda to the Prime Minister and the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh asking them to secure the status quo at the Ayodhya demolition site, as per the Supreme Court orders.

"The anniversary should be observed peacefully as in previous years and all memorandums addressed to the PM and the CM should be delivered to the district magistrate concerned asking them to maintain the status quo in the demolition site as per SC orders", convenor of BMAC Zafaryab Jilani said.

"Those who seek to spoil the atmosphere and give inflammatory speech should be treated rigorously, the safety of all the inhabitants of Ayodhya, especially Muslims, should be assured, and the necessary actions should be taken", He said.

Prayers for peace and harmony should also be organized in the country, he said, adding that sit-ins could take place later in the day, but they did
