NETFLIX REMOVES ITS SUBSCRIPTIONS IN THE NEW CLIENT APPLICATION AND IOS RETURN
Netflix has announced that iOS users who are new or subscribers to the platform (users who have lost a billing period) will no longer be able to register through iTunes to make payments to the media platform.
Like iTunes was cut, Netflix also stopped the option to pay through Google Play a while ago this year according to Engadget.
VentureBeat reported that the transmission platform has confirmed that it will no longer allow "iTunes as a payment method for new members."
Those who want to subscribe to Netflix or maintain their subscription must pay through the platform's website. IOS users may have no choice but to start their subscriptions through a web browser such as Chrome or Safari.
Netflix began testing the change in some of its markets in August, slowly extending it to all its markets in November.
The report notes that Apple takes a 15 to 30 percent cut in subscriptions within the application, which has been an area of conflict between the technology giant and external developers.
As mentioned in The Verge, Spotify, the leading subscription music app, has also stopped billing the Apple app for similar reasons.
Since iTunes is no longer the intermediate agent, Netflix can get all the revenue from its iOS clients.
Neither profit will be shared with Apple, since the additional money will probably be a considerable amount to see how it occupies a prominent place in the list of high-income iOS applications.
The breakup with iTunes may affect smaller applications, but we doubt that it will hamper Netflix subscription numbers in any way.
